The motto of the Smart Production Lab at FH JOANNEUM - one of the largest teaching and research factories on the subject of Industry 4.0 (I04) in Austria - is not just learning, but experiencing it.
In applied projects, key areas of digital transformation are realized directly with industrial companies based on real company processes. This includes topics such as the Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality, big data, additive manufacturing or IT security. By integrating the topics from the lab into teaching and “doing it yourself” in a modern, creative place, future graduates are better prepared for the digital industry of the future and strengthens the business location with well-trained managers.
The catchphrase is the term "Industry 4.0" - in the Smart Production Lab we understand this to mean the widespread use of networked machines combined to form an Internet of Things, which enables production to work in real time. Autonomous objects such as workpieces, storage and conveyor systems, robots, machines and equipment, mobile communication and real-time sensors enable decentralized control of production.
The focus of the lab is on the interdisciplinary connection of the possibilities of IT integration in order to research digitization in a practice-oriented way. The idea behind this is to use stations to map the typical departments in a company. This means that from the supplier to the customer (horizontal integration) and from the digital 3D drawing to production and logistics to reporting (vertical integration), data is automatically recorded and optimally used can.
The considered stations of the Smart Production Lab in this app are arranged based on the horizontal and vertical integration. The working groups of the institute "Industrial Management" of the respective stations have developed use cases for this, which are each in one of the two development stages "Advanced" or "Research". The "Advanced" level includes solutions that are already used in many industrial companies. It represents the current stage of expansion in the Smart Production Lab.
The "Research" level goes beyond the state of the art and includes use cases that also mean new topics for progressive companies and will be researched by the Institute Industrial Management in the future.
With the VR view, the Smart Production Lab can be explored, either in a guided tour or freely according to the OpenWorld idea of everyone, according to your mood - but don't forget to drop by the cinema.
