About this app

/!\ THIS IS NOT AN APPLICATION TO TAKE PHOTOS, BUT TO HELP TO PERFORM SETTINGS IN MANUAL MODE ON A CAMERA OR A DEDICATED APPLICATION.

This application will help you to abandon the automatic mode of your cameras that does not do everything and control everything. For more experienced photographers, it can simplify the settings by doing the calculations for you (/!\ The camera must be adjusted manually).

In any case, it is not a magic application to make beautiful pictures every time, but it will allow you to find a basic setting to refine to get the best picture you think.

It is aimed at professional or amateur photographers (basic knowledge is required) and offers the tools to:
- Calculate the alternative/equivalent exposure (manages the ND filter and long exposures)
- Calculate the depth of field, hyperfocal and simulation of Bokeh
- Calculate the field of view
- Calculate the shutter speed to freeze the motion of a subject
- Capture/Photograph sunrise/sunset, the golden hours and the blue hours
- Get the position of the sun, time of sunrise/sunset, golden hour, blue time and monthly calendar
- Capture/Photograph the moon based on the phase of the day
- Capture/Photograph moonlit landscapes
- Get the position of the moon, the hour of moonrise/moonset and the monthly calendar
- Capture/Photograph the stars, the milky way without or with star trails (Simulator)
- Capture/Photograph the northern lights
- Capture/Photograph the lightning and the fireworks
- Calculate the best setting for an EV (exposure value) given
- Calculate distance or aperture with a flash
- Calculate the optimum settings according to the lighting of the place (Light Meter)
- Calculate for the macro photo the possible magnification with a close-up lens or an extension tube
- Calculate the print size
- Time lapse
- Get/Set the characteristics of a camera (sensor size, crop factor, sensor resolution, ISO range, shutter speed range, circle of confusion)

A countdown is available for long exposures.

If this app is right for you, you can switch to Photographer's Companion Pro (no ads with more features).

Great job with the app! A small bug i noticed is that in the Capture the Stars section, the moon phases appear to be reversed (moon warning appears during moonless nights). Also, many of the symbols in the tables are a little hard to understand. It would have helped to add a help message for each one. Great job though, I salute you!

Thanks Eddy! I will look at the inversion of the phases of the Moon for the warning. In the main help page, you have an explanation of the symbols found in different tools. It is true that I have not completed the help at the interface for the "Capture the Stars" tool. I will do it...

This is the most impressive tool i have seen for sale for experienced photographers on the Play Store. It is for experienced photographers through, if your just messing around on even the most expensive top of the line smartphone camera's it's just not for that. It's meant more for regular cameras. It's a really handy tool for pro's for making certain adjustments. Not to say you shouldn't get it to learn. I've learned a lot from it!

Started playing with this today. I was really looking for an ephemeris but found this has so much more, though you can't search alternative locations plus dates in the free version. So I bought the Pro version. Very nice interface, quick easy to use etc. Stored Planner locations are great for places you re-visit for different lighting effects, also favourites option for cameras and lenses makes storing and retrieving your kit easy. Things like the guideline settings for photographing lightning and stop motion settings for various moving objects are nice touches, and having struggled with capturing lightning, this would have been a great starting point. A lot of very nice thinking in this app.

Thank you so much David! Yes, the Pro version allows you to define your lenses library. If you want to discover the differences between the 2 versions, click on the icon at the bottom left of the main screen "≠ Pro version"
