The Veste Oberhaus app: Traveling through history with the Falken Pilgrim
The free Veste Oberhaus app turns a visit to the castle in Passau into an adventure trip for young and old. Younger visitors can use the app to explore various stations in the castle complex in an age-appropriate way on the discovery tour. You will learn a lot of interesting facts about the history of the castle, its residents and its buildings. Today, numerous animations and images bring the invisible back to light. The mascot, the falcon Pilgrim, gives them tricky puzzles to solve and is available at the photo station for a photo together. The Veste ABC – from A for observation tower to Z for Zwinger – offers adult visitors a variety of insights and background information about Veste Oberhaus. This makes the app particularly suitable for trips with the whole family.
The app also provides all the information you need for visiting the fortress and museum, including the castle map, opening times, entrance fees and directions. It provides an insight into the exhibitions in the Oberhausmuseum and the various offers in the museum for young visitors, such as hands-on stations and the popular castle puzzle booklet.
In addition, the app offers numerous tips specifically for your family around the castle, provides information about the Kultur|Jugendherberge Passau and the restaurant “Das Oberhaus”, playgrounds, viewing points, etc., which are also located on the complex.

With a built area of 65,000 m², the Veste Oberhaus is one of the largest preserved castle complexes in Europe and has been in continuous use for over 800 years. The castle complex still has its historical core from the Middle Ages, which was expanded to include a castle in the Renaissance and converted into a fortress in the Baroque period. The museum shows exhibitions on medieval history, the history of the city of Passau, the traditions of the historical guilds, the history of the Bohemian Forest, as well as a section on Passau porcelain, a historical pharmacy, the Hans Wimmer collection and a fire department museum in the castle's 3,000 m² rooms .
Usage instructions:
Free WiFi is available at the castle for downloading on site. All content is also available offline after the optional download and can also be enjoyed at home on the couch.
The app is regularly revised and expanded. It was created as part of the fabulAPP project of the State Office for Non-State Museums in Bavaria, with the support of the Bayerische Sparkassenstiftung.
