About this app

The city of Oberhausen is striving to increase the proportion of bicycle traffic and thereby, among other things, to improve the CO2 balance. In addition to measures to improve the cycling infrastructure, communication and service measures for cycling are also required. With funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, the smartphone app "RadRouten Oberhausen" was developed for cyclists in Oberhausen, which is intended to make an important contribution to promoting cycling.

The app has various functions such as navigation, point of interest (PoI) and display of saved CO2 and fuel as well as calorie consumption. As a special feature, the RadRouten app offers users a reward system. For each kilometer driven, one point is credited to the user account as a bike coin. The collected RadMünzen can then be redeemed at participating bouncy partners in the form of a voucher. Vouchers are created, managed and redeemed via the app.

The RadRouten app will initially have the following functions:

• Display of points of interest

• RadMünzen bonus program

• Recording and statistics of cycling trips

• Display of news about cycling

• Bike navigation

The recorded bike rides can also be made available to the city of Oberhausen in anonymised form on a voluntary basis for better bike traffic planning. This function can be activated voluntarily by the RadRouten app user and is not compulsory for using the app. The city thus has the opportunity to analyze the cycle routes ridden, cycle traffic loads and travel speeds. The recorded cycling data enable better cycling management and the evaluation of measures to promote cycling. As a result, the cycling infrastructure can be improved in a targeted manner in the future.
