What is a new corona vaccination certificate?
The new corona vaccination certificate is an official proof of the fact that the new corona vaccination was implemented in each municipality based on the Japanese vaccination law.
Your name, date of birth, vaccination record (vaccine type, date of vaccination, lot number, etc.) will be listed.
In addition to them, for overseas, the nationality of the passport and the passport number are listed.

A two-dimensional code is written on the vaccination certificate.
The two-dimensional code includes information such as name, date of birth, vaccination record, etc.

Worked for me. The most counterintuitive part is that this app generates the digital equivalent of an official certified document, so you need to rescan your My Number card (and passport, for international certificates) when you get a booster. It won't just magically update an existing certificate. You can add multiple certificates, which may be useful for families. I downloaded this app after most of the initial problems with middle names and foreign passports had been sorted out.

As many other people before, i had the problem that the app doesn't scan my foreign passport. I did some testing and found out that foreign passports are actually NOT excluded, however the data extraction algorithm was implemented poorly and probably not tested with various foreign passports. The app recognizes any foreign passport just fine, as long as the passport number is 9 characters. My country uses just 8 characters, the app just doesn't react to my passport. Will be fixed soon hopefully

Interface is all in Japanese, so that's just something you'll have to deal with. Otherwise, the setup is very straightforward. You'll need a proper My Number card with your photo and an IC chip that you can get from your local city/ward hall, the green paper notification card isn't enough. The FAQ states that it works with non-Japanese passports, and eventually I did get my USA passport to scan but it took several tries. Try backing it away from the camera and using plenty of ambient light.
