About this app

The ClimateClock shows two numbers. The first, in red, is a timer, counting down how long it will take, at current rates of emissions, to burn through our “carbon budget” — the amount of CO2 that can still be released into the atmosphere while limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This is our deadline, the time we have left to take decisive action to keep warming under the 1.5°C threshold. The second number, in green, is tracking the growing % of the world’s energy currently supplied from renewable sources. This is our lifeline. Simply put, we need to get our lifeline to 100% before our deadline reaches 0.

It's about time! (See what I did there?) I'm grateful to have a tangible way to show people what Renewable Energy is doing FOR us, even as I show them how close we are to a tipping point. (Worth noting that the clocks' numbers are cropped on my Note 8 screen, so they can't fully be read. Also, a widescreen view ought to be enabled for landscape rotation. Currently, rotating the screen doesn't do anything. The central image of the world with fast-moving clock hands is not particularly helpful.)

I'm into the idea of this app but experienced a truly wild glitch when I clicked the "Take Action" link where windows opened endlessly on my Google Chrome browser and I had to Disable the app (restarting my phone and Force Stopping Chrome had no effect). I've reported this to Developers. Fingers crossed they can patch this and update the app. App refers you back to the website which is a let down. Would love if this were more than an accessory to an art installation!

This is pretty cool tool to have. It lets me know exactly the time of the Deadline and Lifeline for Climate Change. It's a must have for any hardcore climate change activists to keep track of the time.
