It's a pamphlet from a 12 Step program called CODA that's repeated ad nauseam until it fills 8+ hours, endless non-clinical jargon, interspersed with highly embellished anecdotes and shameless promotion of various 12 step programs (claiming that it's not promoting them) as though they were panaceas, and a dangerous downplaying of traditional mental health services and therapy. The author is very quick to point out that they are not professional. Although this is categorized as self-help, it's very hard to imagine how this would be helpful to anybody beyond what is already quite accessible to them. I usually enjoy books that present a unique viewpoint, but this just seems to be a regurgitation of a pamphlet handed out in church basements across the country. in these so-called "rooms" I believe it's the kind hearts of the people and not their dogma that makes the difference. I cannot recommend this book. it does not provide any unique viewpoints or information. It's just proselytizing.

This book helped me change my life for the better, and may have helped me save the relationship I have with the most wonderful woman I've ever met. My love for her was always pure, now I know how to be her partner in a healthy way.
