『건강보험의 진화와 미래』는 민영보험·건강보험·연금 분야의 전문가들이 함께 참여하여 중립적이며 포괄적인 관점에서 건강보험을 개관하고 발전방향을 제시한 책이다. 우리나라와 서구 건강보험의 역사적 전개과정을 개관하면서 건강보험의 개념과 유형, 공적건강보험과 민영건강보험의 특징 등에 대해 살펴보고, 국민건강보험 및 민영건강보험제도 운영에서 제기된 중요한 이슈를 비판적으로 검토하면서 이에 대한 보완과 수정방안을 함께 검토한다. 더불어 국민건강보험의 경우 재원조달체계, 보수지불제도, 보장성강화정책 등에 대해 다루고, 민영건강보험에 대해서는 소비자 관점의 문제, 정보 비대칭과 윤리 문제 등을 살펴본다. 이를 통해 한국 건강보험의 현황과 대안을 제시하고, 국민건강보험과 민영건강보험의 조화로운 발전을 모색하였다.

저자 보험미래포럼은 연금과 건강보험을 위시한 사회보장과 보험 일반의 이슈에 관심이 많은 국내 대학과 연구원에 소속한 전문가 7인의 모임이다. 2007년 초 결성 이후 매월 정기적으로 만나 현안에 대해 토론하고 이를 토대로 저작활동에 나서고 있다. 이번 저작은 『연금의 진화와 미래』 (2010)에 이은 두 번째 결실이다. 이번 저술 작업에는 의료체계 및 의료산업 선진화에 매진해온 정기택 교수가 동참했다.
