I couldn't stand this book.. and I'm usually a Beverly Barton fan. The "heroine" kept throwing herself in harm's way, time and time again. She'd yell at the hero for being unfeeling, swear she hates him, she gets her way and then she apologizes for not following his orders. Again and again. And again. I like my heroes alpha -- and this supposed mercenary just didn't cut it for me. He should have drugged her, knocked her out and carried her out of the jungle instead of playing this whiny game with her the whole time. The writer was going for an altruistic heroine, a compassionate missionary born with a silver spoon, and just totally missed the mark. No sparks. This novel was the epitome of "tell" and not "show."

About the author

Movies fascinated Beverly Barton from an early age, and by the time she was seven she was rewriting the movies she saw to give them all happy endings. After her marriage and the births of her children, Beverly continued to be a voracious reader and a devoted movie goer, but she put her writing aspirations on hold. Now, after writing over 70 books, receiving numerous awards and becoming a New York Times bestselling author, Beverly's career became her dream come true.
