Ratings and reviews

This trilogy picks up where the 'Dawning of Power' trilogy leaves off, with a time gap to allow the Herald to raise a son to teenage years. Brian has gotten better at weaving threads of plots toward the final goal in 'Regal'. Regent tells the story, in background, of one form of dragon. 'Feral' describes another. And 'Regal' describes two others -- one of which is new. Over all, these books are good, and individual characters stand out each with their separate attitudes and personalities. I don't know how young adults would react to them, but this old man enjoyed them.

Really enjoyed even if still disjointed in some of the story lines. I look forward to the next story as they seem to be getting more cohesive. Awaiting to get to know the characters enough to call them friends, as I have with other great stories.

The first five books of the series were great. The saga of the Godsland was great, and the character, culture, and history was wonderfully done. Until book six... Poor pacing, inadequate character development, anti-climatic, all in all a terrible end to such a great series. I would really like a complete rewrite of the last book.

About the author

As a teen, Brian Rathbone had a hunger for Young Adult Fantasy and Epic Fantasy that could not be satisfied. He would hide out in his secret reading place for weeks and perch on his choice of straw bale thrones. It was a spiritual and sometimes emotional journey filled with thieves, wizards and dragons.

Years later, after failing to get a job as a wizard, he channeled that passion to create The World of Godsland YA fantasy series, which also includes multiple free young adult books. Call of the Herald, the series starter, is one such freebie.

Rathbone gives away many of his Young Adult books for free in order to let readers sample his work at no risk to them and so those without a large reading budget can enjoy an epic adventure.

Brian's books are inspired by many of his favorite tales Including The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. His journey as an independent author has largely been influenced by writers like Joseph Lallo, Scott Sigler, MR Mathias, Jeff Wheeler and Nathan Lowell.
