About this ebook

The brilliant, chilling debut of Karen White's New York Times bestselling Tradd Street series, featuring a Charleston real estate agent who loves old houses—and the secret histories inside them.

Practical Melanie Middleton hates to admit she can see ghosts. But she's going to have to accept it. An old man she recently met has died, leaving her his historic Tradd Street home, complete with housekeeper, dog—and a family of ghosts anxious to tell her their secrets.

Enter Jack Trenholm, a gorgeous writer obsessed with unsolved mysteries. He has reason to believe that diamonds from the Confederate Treasury are hidden in the house. So he turns the charm on with Melanie, only to discover he's the smitten one...

It turns out Jack's search has caught the attention of a malevolent ghost. Now, Jack and Melanie must unravel a mystery of passion, heartbreak—and even murder.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story about a real estate agent in Georgia who was unexpectedly left an old house, that turns out to be haunted. The real estate agent, Melanie, called around to see the elderly gentleman who owned it with a view to listing and selling it, but it turned out he had ulterior motives that she didn't realise. Melanie has always been able to see ghosts (but tries to ignore it) like her Mother, but the elderly gentleman knew about her family and had hopes that she would be the one to leave his house to as he had no other family. Of course there were stipulations involved with it, but there was enough money to restore the house to it's previous glory and so Melanie reluctantly agreed to it all and got sucked into the life, and ex-life, of the house and its occupants, along with a mystery of why the elderly gentleman's mother had disappeared many, many years ago. One of the other main characters is Jack Trenholm, an historical writer, who also gets caught up in the mystery of the house, and helps Melanie with the restoration process, along with a few other friends and family, all really interesting characters. I must admit I wasn't too sure of the narrator at first as she seemed a bit stilted at the beginning, but as the book went on it got much better and flowed much easier. Really enjoyable story with ghosts and mystery which kept my interest throughout. I look forward to reading the rest of this really intriguing series.
