I haven't had the pleasure of reading the first two books of this series. I'm kinda sad I didn't before reading this one. I don't feel they're necessary to enjoy Reckless, but I feel they probably would have enhanced my experience. From the beginning, I was swept into Darby and Sadie's world. The emotional upheaval of war and the promise it brought between two men set the pace for what I hoped would be an incredible read. It was and I wasn't disappointed. The secrecy of Sadie's past is heavily present throughout this story. But Darby's determination to unravel the mystery that is Sadie was just as prevalent. Finding out what Sadie kept so carefully hidden was a monumental moment. The events that followed capitalized on the attraction that had developed between Darby and Sadie but also the fulfillment of Darby's promise to Sadie's brother. What stuck out the most was Sadie's selflessness. Everything she did was for others. In some stories, I've seen that kind of strain wear on a woman until she snaps. For Sadie, it only strengthened her character, gave her courage to continue doing what she did, making sure she did what was necessary to protect her niece and honor her brother's wishes. And, I feel, Darby not only saw that but appreciated it as well. I enjoyed every word of this story. Ms. Michaels gave me characters and a setting that were engaging and intriguing, dialogue that was lighthearted at times and heavier at others, and tender moments that made my heart smile.
