Ratings and reviews

As sci fi authors are they tend to be less shy with their philosophies. It happened to Crichton, and in this book it is evident for Mr. Robinson. Fortunately, the quality of Mr. Robinson's characters and stories does not suffer for it. The most refreshing thing about this book may be that the underlying philosophy is that one mustn't give up, that there are no excuses for accepting change, for good or ill, lying down. Something can always be done, even if it isn't glamorous, or ultimately fails. It's worth trying.

Seems like the author packs in many characters and tries to give them all story and flavor, but ends up making them all lackluster due to the sheer amount of them. Either make one really developed character or have a combination. Can't have both.

Is this a story of climatic change or economic ruin? Not clear to me what the author is trying to say.
