About this ebook

Winnie Perry is fourteen now, and the countdown to high school is shaping up to be as eventful as an entire year of middle school. Not only are things shaky with her boyfriend, Lars, but BFFs Dinah and Cinnamon have been acting weird, big sister Sandra is college-bound, little brother Ty has smuggled a stolen penguin home in his backpack, and new baby sister Maggie has everything turned upside down.

It?s a lot for anyone to handle, and loyal Winnie is so busy worrying about everyone else that she hardly notices that she might just be struggling a little bit herself.

With humor and honesty, Lauren Myracle brings us another pitch-perfect novel featuring the characters that her legions of fans have grown up loving.

Personally, I think THIRTEEN PLUS ONE is a great book. It teaches about the meaning of honesty and forgiveness as well as friendship and responsibility. The book is most definitely a page-turner, no questions asked. It has a great hook and plenty of suspense (not to mention the incredibly ironic twist at the end). It has the variety of the everyday topics that a normal 14-year-old goes through in her life. I think that this story is great for girls around this age to read. It teaches lessons and, more importantly, shows how to deal with tough situations. Another reason I loved this book is because of the setting. It is set on a sunny beach in South Carolina and filled with descriptions that made me feel right at home. Cinnamon, Winnie’s best friend, is a great character. She knows what to say at the right moments, and she seems like a complete joy to be around. Even through her sarcasm, she’s a funny girl who’s not afraid of anything. I admire that. I love the page-turning effect of this story but I don’t like how one subject could stretch out so long over multiple chapters. It can get a little boring. But, once the irony kicks in, it’s fantastic!

This book is a great reflection of how tough being fourteen can be. If you've read 11,12 and 13 you are familiar with Lauren Myracle's fabulous work. Some of the content like dating and boys is not exactly appropriate for an eleven year old to be reading. Besides the dating parts of this book I have to say this a great book about family and friendship.
