But The Field of the Cloth of Gold sits firmly outside of time, a skillful and surreal fable dealing with ideas of ownership, empire, immigration, charisma, diplomacy, and bureaucracy. About the author
Magnus Mills is the author of three story collections and seven previous novels, including The Maintenance of Headway and The Restraint of Beasts, which won the McKitterick Prize and was shortlisted for both the Man Booker Prize and the Whitbread (now the Costa) First Novel Award. His books have been translated into twenty languages. He lives in London.
