About this ebook

Marriage and children are way too risky for wealthy cowboy James MacLachlan. After his mom died giving birth and witnessing how true love—or the loss of it—destroyed his father’s life, love isn’t in the cards for James. He’ll stick to running his massive family ranch and starting an equine therapy program for special needs children...

After a few disastrous romances, nomadic photographer Reese Turner has sworn off dating to focus on her career. Now she’s returned to Cypress Creek, Texas, on assignment for her dream job and to buy back her grandparents’ cottage. What she doesn’t need is to run into her ex, James MacLachlan...or feel the spark of attraction all over again.

Reese isn’t ready for commitment, settling down, or giving up on her professional dreams. And James is about as land-locked as a cowboy can get. And while this chance to rekindle their old flame might be another shot at love...it could also be one last chance for heartbreak.

Debut author, Makeena Lee wrote a wonderful, second chance, with off the charts chemistry romance featuring James and Reese in Her Second Chance Cowboy. We have successful wealthy cowboy James MacLachlan running his large family ranch and starting an equine therapy program for kids with special needs. As an child he watched his father destroyed after the death of his mother in childbirth; his father’s true love. James refuses to allow that to happen to him and would never consider marriage and children; only casual relationships for this cowboy. Photographer Reese Turner returns to Cypress Creek, Texas in order to complete a photo assignment National Geographic, another photo assignment for a company she’s freelanced with, and hoping to buy back her grandparents’ cottage. After some rather bad romances she’s sworn off men to focus on her career; besides, the marriage and children she desires can wait, she hopes. Then she encounters an old boyfriend and finds the magnetism between them is still there. Not only are still attracted to each other but they have off the chart, sizzling chemistry and are able to create fireworks. They figure they can live together, create a fantasy life, and then Reese will leave town to chase after her dream job. One problem is that James has trust issues and ends things with Reese whenever he finds out she’s done something he doesn’t care for. Then he finds out the truth, forgives her, and wants her back. Until he can overcome his need to always be right they will never reach a happily ever after. I will say my favorite part of the story is having James and Reese finding the clues left by his great-grandfather and grandfather as well as Reese’s grandmother. Ms. Lee wrote a wonderful, emotional and sizzling story that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with magnetism, chemistry, and charming characters giving James and Reese a second chance to find that happily ever after; even with some divine intervention. I highly recommend Her Second Chance Cowboy to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I love a good second chance story and throw in a cowboy, a mysterious twist in the form of a treasure hunt and you've got yourself a bell ringer! What happens when Reese returns to Cypress Creek in hopes of buying her late grandmothers cottage back and runs into her high school flame James, that broke her heart into pieces. While Reese who is now a photographer putting together a portfolio hoping to land a job with National Geographic, finds she has plenty to photograph in her old town, including one sweaty, shirtless cowboy. James now owns the land that her Grandmothers cottage sits on. Reese has good memories of the cottage and her grandmother and really wants it to be her home base, hoping to get that job she is chasing. Both she and James have some things to work out, meanwhile his grandparents, I adored both of them- set them off on a treasure hunt of sorts. Mysterious clues to decipher and finding their way to the next clue. Neither they nor the reader know where this will lead. I really liked Reese and her friend Lila, I struggled with James at times because he just didn't step up his game. For an adult and successful businessman, he seemed a little clueless about personal relationships, obviously he failed in some serious ways with Reese. Made me want to give him a good kick in the pants, however it did keep me interested just the same. What will happen if Lila gets the cottage and her dream job? Does she leave or try and should she try and find a job locally that would work for her? And what lies at the end of the treasure hunt and her relationship with James? You'll have to read this one to find out. I was hanging on by my thumbs until the very end. Great debut book from Makenna!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it. This is a new to me author. I thought the plot was wonderful and moved just like it would have between two people. I adored the characters and how they tried to protect themselves from further heartache. Some may consider it slow and maybe a little repetitive, but to me is was more of laying the groundwork with a strong foundation. A chance to really come to know the characters and what made them tick. Reese Turner comes home to Cypress Creek to visit her grandparents former home. After her grandparents passed, her father sold the property to the neighbors, the MacLachlan's. Reese is a photographer and her dream career of working for National Geographic and traveling the world just may come true. She wants to buy back the farm or at least the house and use it as her home base. Upon visiting the house, she spies a shirtless cowboy up on the roof. Oh what a sight to behold! Her fingers itch to take a picture of the natural beauty of the gorgeous man. Unfortunately the man turned out to be another than James MacLachlan, her first love and first heartbreak. This book is written in a dual POV format. I adore this. Getting into the mind and seeing their thoughts really helps me to connect to the characters so much better. These two characters were charming and the kind that I would love to have as friends. I got lost in this book. I really hated to see it end. I REALLY hope that the author is going to write another Cypress Creek novel with Finn and Astrid. I have my fingers crossed!!! As far as sexy goes, this had just some heavy petting. The author did a great job in fading to black and letting the reader fill in the gaps if they wanted. I would really call this slightly sexy. That being said I would only highly recommend this to someone over the age of 18. If you adore second chance at first love, especially if the male protagonist is a cowboy, then you will definitely want to give this a try.
