Ratings and reviews

Overall I think it was a very good read and I enjoyed the book. What I didn't care for was the way the book went it left me feeling like I'd missed a previous volume that filled me in about the cultures and magic system. You can certainly piece much together by the time you finish it but it leaves you feeling only a "surface" connection to the characters and events. You get the briefest of history and explanations on what lead up to the events but its not very fulfilling.

Boring rehashing of tried fantasy tropes. Jemisin has better Gods, Abercrombie has better grit, Feist has better lizard people.

From Narnia and Middle-earth to a galaxy far, far away, he has always harbored a love for things only imagination can conjure up. He has two great boys and an awesome wife who is way more supportive of his writing efforts than he thinks he deserves.
