About this ebook

Bridgerton fans and readers of Madeline Hunter, Eloisa James, and Lisa Kleypas won’t want to miss this humorous and clever new love story from the historical romance legend.

“Smart, sexy historical romance…a perfectly fashioned love story rich in smoldering sexual chemistry, sharp wit, and a dash of danger.” —Booklist

“A brilliant conclusion to a fun and entertaining series.” Romance Junkies

Along with his stepsiblings, Sheridan Wolfe, Duke of Armitage, is determined to finally solve the mysteries behind the suspicious deaths of their mother’s three husbands. Tasked with investigating a possible suspect, Sheridan finds himself in dangerous proximity to her captivating daughter, Vanessa Pryde. But still haunted by a tragically lost love, the duke is resolved to resist the attraction—and avoid any “scheming” husband-hunters. Besides, lovely Miss Pryde seems utterly smitten with a roguish London playwright . . .

Vanessa thinks a little scheming may be in order—for it’s Sheridan she truly has her sights, and her heart, set on. Her theatrical flirtation is intended only to break through his business-like demeanor and guarded emotions. And as Sheridan’s jealousy becomes aroused, the two soon find themselves propelled into a scheme of an altogether different kind, involving a pretend engagement, a secret inquiry—and a perhaps not-so-secret leap into true love . . .

“Anyone who loves romance must read Sabrina Jeffries!”
—Lisa Kleypas, New York Times bestselling author

“Fans will delight in revisiting Sheridan’s large family in this heated, twisty tale of love and deception.”

What a great ending to this exceptional series! I love a heroine who knows what she wants. Put her in a historical romance where society’s conventions put a restraint on those desires, and that provides all kinds of fun outcomes. Ms. Jeffries took Vanessa’s desire for Sheridan and turned his world upside down. I loved how Vanessa was smart enough to maneuver the situation to fit her needs. Sheridan didn’t have a clue he was being gently manipulated. Watching Sheridan manipulate Vanessa, unknowing that he was the one being manipulated, was just too much fun. It was plain to see how he truly felt, despite his ignorance of his own feelings. Give me a hero that is jealous to the point of acting impetuously, one that is protective beyond reason, and I’m a happy reader. Poor Sheridan. He never had a clue. This is a fast read with so much wit and fun throughout, involving all the characters from the series. I adore the way this family harassed each other with love. There is plenty of drama as the whole group continues to investigate who the murderer might be. Along with the relationship angst between Sheridan and Vanessa, there are also some pretty hot and steamy scenes with this couple. Overall, a perfect book to wrap things up all while giving us a happily ever after for Sheri

We finally get Sheridan Wolfe, Duke of Armitage's story. Sheridan and his family are getting closer to figuring out who killed all three of their mother, Lydia Fletcher's husbands. When Sheridan is given the task to question Cora Pryde (Lady Eustace) who they believe is a suspect, he never would have believed that her daughter, Miss Vanessa Pryde would catch his attention. Sheridan finds himself attracted to Vanessa, but because of the death of his fiance a few years ago he doesn't want to pursue another possible heartbreak again. Vanessa may be pretending to flirt and want Konrad Juncker, but in reality she really is interested in Sheridan. As these two play a cat and mouse game, real feelings start to emerge. As things start to escalate with the investigation, so does Vanessa and Sheridan's relationship. Vanessa hopes she is getting everything she wished for, now she just hopes that Sheridan feels the same way. In a surprising twist, we finally find out who the murderer is. This revelation brings everything to a nice happy ending where Vanessa and Sheridan will finally get their happy ever after. I really enjoyed this story and am sad that the series is over. It was fun trying to figure out who the murderer was. I really liked Sheridan and Vanessa too. Sheridan was all businesslike but quickly realized that he wasn't living his fullest life until he was with Vanessa. I also loved how Vanessa was finally able to find the one thing she always hoped for....unconditional love! Overall another great book from Sabrina Jeffries.

Love this!! Vanessa is definitely a jewel amongst her family history, love that she is feisty, smart and strong enough to raise above. Such a fun read, as she ups the ante and the Duke suddenly has his hands full trying to uncover more than one mystery. Never a dull moment, I was caught up in the matters of the heart and the danger surrounding the undercovering of whodunnit. I received a free advanced copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
