About this ebook

The
follow-up to his bestseller The War of Art, Turning Pro navigates the
passage from the amateur life to a professional practice.

"You don't need to take a course or buy a product. All you have to do is change your mind."
--Steven Pressfield

TURNING PRO IS FREE, BUT IT'S NOT EASY.

When
we turn pro, we give up a life that we may have become extremely
comfortable with. We give up a self that we have come to identify with
and to call our own.

TURNING PRO IS FREE, BUT IT DEMANDS SACRIFICE.

The
passage from amateur to professional is often achieved via an interior
odyssey whose trials are survived only at great cost, emotionally,
psychologically and spiritually. We pass through a membrane when we turn
pro. It's messy and it's scary. We tread in blood when we turn pro.

WHAT WE GET WHEN WE TURN PRO.

What
we get when we turn pro is we find our power. We find our will and our
voice and we find our self-respect. We become who we always were but
had, until then, been afraid to embrace and live out.

I found this book after I determined not to read any more self-esteem, self-help, inspirational books. All of those books sound the same lately. It's not the typical self-help book. It's much better. Turning PRO is a practical guide to doing your best work. It's about graduating from the minor leagues to the majors by doing good work, working hard and being committed to your craft. It's about about growing up professionally. This is a great read.

The War of Art was great. This one really just repeats the same ideas (which are awesome btw) although I didn't feel it added much more. It reads like a summary of a much bigger book that needs more detail and examples and nuance under each topic.

After reading the War of Art, I knew I would eventually have to read Turning Pro as well. I waited about a year after to finally do so, and now I find myself re-reading both of these books periodically to refocus my attention. There is so much useful information in this book that I find new applicable ideas (that I didn't catch before) resonating each time I read it. I would and do suggest these book to anyone working on anything. The concepts are so simple and universal that they seem like common sense but are often overlooked or ignored. The truth is simple and Pressfield tells it how it is. GREAT READ!
