I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. The mix of paranormal potential, a very bad bad guy, and the internal struggle of the protagonist as he wrestles with the decision between love and his culture, all lead to a well rounded and deep "who-done-it". Rich with Navajo lore and "beauty" way of thinking, as well as descriptive geography, weather, and emotions, this book is a must read.

All Tony Hillerman's books bring the Navajo nation to the forefront of the reader's attention. I enjoy reading the different ceremonies which take place and the vivid description of the country side. For someone who has never been to that region, it makes for a wonderful journey.

Other than when I paid for it it was supposed to be an audio book and I'm stuck having to read it thinking I was going to be able to listen to it , but at the same time Tony Hillerman my most favorite author no matter what he writes excellent great rider I recommend you read all of them, but I don't like the idea that I paid for an audio book and I got one I had to read not that I don't like reading but I don't feel I was treated fairly I asked for an audio book and I got a book without the audio.

About the author

TONY HILLERMAN served as president of the Mystery Writers of America and received the Edgar and Grand Master Awards. His other honors include the Center for the American Indian’s Ambassador Award, the Spur Award for Best Western Novel, and the Navajo Tribal Council Special Friend of the Dineh Award. A native of Oklahoma, Tony Hillerman lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, until his death in 2008.
