But she'll have to jump across the galaxy and possibly storm the gates of hell itself.

This feels like a filler installment. The author introduces a bunch of new interesting characters and does nothing with them, except off a few more or less gratuitously. Is he trying to make us connect to characters that are doomed to be killed off, in order to make an emotional connection, or is he creating new players but then changes the plot and needs to get rid of them? The ones he doesn't off are left hanging, half developed. Foundations for the next installment? Either way, I'm wondering if I'll shell out for it...
