About this ebook

There's something about the new guy at Crossroads High…

Most sixteen-year-olds have friends.

Aden Stone has four human souls living inside him:

One can time travel.

One can raise the dead.

One can possess another human.

One can tell the future.

Everyone thinks he's crazy, which is why he's spent his entire life shuffled between mental institutions and juvie. All of that is about to change, however. For months Aden has been having visions of a beautiful girl—a girl who carries centuries-old secrets. A girl who will either save him or destroy him.

Together they'll enter a dark world of intrigue and danger…but not everyone will come out alive.

After reading Showalter's LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD series, I decided to check out her young adult fare. INTERTWINED isn't so much a book as it is a medley of supernatural creatures, confusing plots, overblown (and unexplained) magic, and poor writing. I'd like to think there might be a good story in there somewhere, but I'm not sure I could dig deep enough under the rubble to find it. INTERTWINED is about a boy who has dead people in his head. These dead people all have magical powers that the boy (sometimes) has control over: raising the dead, time travel, precognition, and I can't remember what else, which I think says something. I was completely overwhelmed by the magical abilities. First off, he had too many. Secondly, you'd think after living with it his entire life, he might have more control over it. Thirdly, when you're a time travelling precog, what problems *can't* you solve? So the boy has issues. Because of the dead people in his head, everyone thinks he's crazy. He ends up at a "ranch" for wayward and troubled boys. He attends high school. He meets a girl. There is a strange attaction toward the girl, but it's "brotherly" sort of. Not really. Who knows? Later, the boy meets a vampire he's dreamed about. The sister-like girl meets a werewolf, who's protecting said vampire. People fall in love. The boys fight for reasons I can't understand. Somewhere in here, a plot happens. People are looking for the boy. The girl suppresses the boy's voices. Who knows? More importantly, who cares? It doesn't help matters that the writing is lacking. It's as if the author thought that because it's young adult, the entire narrative should be dumbed-down. Almost every paranormal creature you've heard about before is in this book. Combine that with a mash of plots (I think there were plots) that never really resolve nor have their motivation explained, and you've got INTERTWINED.

This is probably the best book I have ever read. It was amazing and I have read the over 30 times. I AM COMPLETELY OBESSED WITH THIS BRILLANT NOVEL! Gena Showalter made the prefect novel full of action, adventure, romance, and, supernatural twist. It was hard to put down and I can't name a book I find more interesting.

Interesting story, not as well written as her adult novels, but good for a teenage girl who loved twilight and has now run out of reading material. The characters are believable and interesting but the descriptions fall short (as they often do in YA fiction). Typical high school paranormal romance with a few twists. I will read the sequel if some one puts it in my hands but I will not go looking for it myself.
