Ratings and reviews

I got bored halfway through this, as not a lot had happened. To be honest, I'd been ready to give up when the dragon hatched from the egg and immediately started speaking English. Yes, I know it's not meant to be realistic, but come on. This is probably an OK book for kids, if the premise of dragons can keep them interested through the long hard slog that passes for dialogue. To make matters worse, the bookmarks don't work so you'll spend a long time trying to find your place, only to regret it when you finally get there and remember why you stopped reading in the first place.

Excellent read. Very sweet story. Found the protagonist a little uneven in his characterization but it was easily forgivable in the midst of such excellent story telling and world building.

Bookmarks don't work, spend more time trying to find where you left off than reading. Very disappointed

About the author

Naomi Novik was born in New York in 1973, a first-generation American, and raised on Polish fairy tales, Baba Yaga, and Tolkien. She studied English Literature at Brown University and Computer Science at Columbia University before leaving to work in the games industry. Over the course of a brief winter sojourn working on a game in Canada, she realized she preferred the writing to the programming, and, on returning to New York, decided to try her hand at novels. Temeraire is her first.
