Spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes, frequent reminders of the plot, plot holes and shallow research irritated me throughout this book. The setting was bland. Emotions mere shallow descriptions emanating, at times, from backs of knees. Musings of flat characters neatly repeating the plot so I got sick of hearing their thoughts. Some pieces of plot never resolved, such as the idiotic discovery that coal produces heat and might be valuable... a century after it was widely known and mined for profit.
