SIGH! That is what I can say about the series, and indeed it seems mr. Iggluden's writing in particular. The series starts off as a fantastic adventure of the underdog against the world, then somewhere along book 3 everything just became...stupid. This mainly has to do with the author's decision to depart from history and into the realm of the metaphysical, where any explanation of a great feat is simply "because they're mongols". Battle after battle has been described as "they won because they're mongols"

There isn't a 'Bad' Book in the Whole Series of 5 wonderfully written, well researched and utterly compelling Books. To be honest, if you're looking at Reviews for a captivating Epic to see you through the current 2020 Pandemic, then I'd suggest... Buy the Whole Series As 1 purchase ! Save some money, because I can absolutely guarantee You Will Not Find Better ! Equal ? YES! -In all fairness you Will find Equally brilliant Stories in Conn Ig's Emperor Series- 3 Books there, same Advice- buy All 3. And then look at Bernard Cornwell ! [I know it's not 'good form' to recommend another Author in the same Review, but I firmly believe if you asked Conn Ig' for His opinion, I'd confidently say He too would recommend Bernie C. & his current Series; 'The Last Kingdom'(12 Books)] Reading Conn or Bernie First makes no odds, as reading one's Historical Epics, then the other's, is like swapping a Hoody for a Sweatshirt ! They're equally comfortable & warm, but Unmistakably Different !

I've never read it but from how the cover looks . I think it's going to be awesome
