About this ebook

Wizard for hire Harry Dresden gets mixed-up with the dead in this “haunting, fantastical novel”(Publishers Weekly) in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

Harry Dresden’s faced some pretty terrifying foes during his career. Giant scorpions. Oversexed vampires. Psychotic werewolves. It comes with the territory, when you’re the only professional wizard in the Chicago area phone book.

But in all Harry’s years of supernatural sleuthing, he’s never faced anything like this: the spirit world’s gone postal. All over Chicago, ghosts are causing trouble—and not just of the door-slamming, boo-shouting variety. These ghosts are tormented, violent, and deadly. Someone—or something—is purposely stirring them up to wreak unearthly havoc. But why? And why do so many of the victims have ties to Harry? If Harry doesn’t figure it out soon, he could wind up a ghost himself...

Fast paced with a lot going on at the same time. Dresden suffers tremendously throughout the book but maintains his sarcastic wit the whole time. He grows in many ways as this series becomes more mature. This, the third book of the series, is much more complex than the first two books. I love the new characters Michael and Thomas. The story can be a little too busy and corny for some. But I enjoyed it. I'm hooked on Harry Dresden.

Jim Butcher's writing style grows and changes a lot throughout this series. This is the book where I really start to see him delve into something a little deeper, and a little darker. This is the book where Harry Dresden becomes a person, and not just a character in a book. Be sure to to have the next book handy when you finish this one.

I always write the same descriptive word for my summary. Awesome!! Well, what else can I say? I've read 3 books in this series in the last 10 days and now I'm about to dive into the next. As each book unveils more of Harry Dresden's world, Jim Butcher reveals more of his inept ability to clasp our imagination to his as he spins this magical tale. Awesome!!

About the author

A martial arts enthusiast whose résumé includes a long list of skills rendered obsolete at least two hundred years ago, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher turned to writing as a career because anything else probably would have driven him insane. He lives mostly inside his own head so that he can write down the conversation of his imaginary friends, but his head can generally be found in Independence, Missouri. Jim is the author of the Dresden Files, the Codex Alera novels, and the Cinder Spires series, which began with The Aeronaut’s Windlass.
