About this ebook

Newbery Honor Book

In this powerful novel based on historical events, the Navajo tribe's forced march from their homeland to Fort Sumner is dramatically and courageously narrated by young Bright Morning.

Like the author's Newbery Medal-winning classic Island of the Blue Dolphins, Scott O'Dell's Sing Down the Moon is a gripping tale of survival, strength, and courage.

Grade: 4-6 (GR: T) Rating: C Comments: This book was about a girl and her journey as a young Navaho and her peoples’ forced relocation. I thought the writing was good, but I kept finding myself wanting more in the story. I was also somewhat disappointed with the “all of a sudden” ending. I was also disappointed based up on its Newbery honor (1971) status.
