About this ebook

Tim Kendall lives alone, works in a department store, and doesn't have any friends. Life can seem pretty bleak when you're a 23 year old loner. But inside of his mind, Tim is a warrior, a hero, on great and daring adventures.

When Tim discovers role-play games, the world of enchantment is opened to him, and he finds colour and excitement in his imagination. In the real world, his two most significant relationships involve a young autistic boy, and the sinister Harold, who looms large in both the real world and Tim's wild imaginings.

First published in 1989, Enchantment follows a lost young man trying to find his place in the world.

About the author

Monica Enid Dickens, MBE (born 10 May 1915, London - died 25 December 1992, Reading, Berkshire) was an English writer, the great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens.

A prolific author of over 30 works of fiction and four series of children's books including the The World's End and The Folly Foot series. She decided to go into service despite coming from the privileged class; her experiences as a cook and general servant would form the nucleus of her first book, One Pair Of Hands in 1939.

One Pair Of Feet (1942) recounted her work as a nurse, and subsequently she worked in an aircraft factory and on a local newspaper in Hitchin - her experiences in the latter field of work inspired her 1951 book My Turn To Make The Tea.
