I read for entertainment or enlightenment. This book provided neither. The plots jump around with no real tie in or backstory. I had to keep going back to see if i missed something, and no it was just a convoluted and at times long winded writing style. I will not be finishing the series.

Lord of the Rings meets the European Crusades. The best series I've read. Well written, great plot, and characters you want to follow.

Fantastic novel. Very much influenced by ASoIaF but with less PoV characters and generally less complexity.

R. Scott Bakker is a student of literature, history, philosophy, and ancient languages. His previous books include the Prince of Nothing trilogy: The Darkness that Comes Before, The Warrior Prophet, and The Thousandfold Thought.
