Great book, sad ending though. Hattie Owen lives in a boarding house, and everything is predictable. But that soon changes, when her unspoken of Uncle , Adam comes to Millerton to live with his parents. Adam has a mental illness,. A carnival comes to millerton, where Hattie Owen meets a new friend.

Purest more honest story about mental illness. I read this when I was in elementary school and it's had a hold on me since then. It's been about 12 years now and I still think of this book every now and then.

*MAJOR SPOILERS* I just don't understand how this is suitable for children, when it has a person HANGING THEMSELVES AT THE END! ALSO,THERE WAS A VERY INNAPPROPRIATE PART NEAR THE END, BEFORE ADAM KILLS HIMSELF! I HATED IT!
