After "Drive", another great story, which clashes a bit with the TV series in some details, but still a very good one. It explores the backstory of Amos Burton on Earth in much more detail than is shown in the TV show. It also left me wanting more. "The Butcher of Anderson Station" is next.

First available novella from The Expanse prequels. This book establishes a
very vivid description of the Earth culture and societal structure. The
characters are refreshingly stunning and intriguing. I found myself trying
to ascertain who was the past who of characters known from the TV series
(which, sadly, I came across first). Cannot believe it illuded me right to
the end. Brilliant ending! Loved it! Once again, as in "The Butcher of
Anderson...", utterly disappointed in the atrocious grammar/punctuation

Backstories can be a let down, but this is not. It's the silhouette of a man; elusive in character, described more by his local surroundings, associates & actions, than by his own features. He is as aloof in the old post apocalyptic world as in the coming post protomolecule universe; unsettling, possibly dangerous, but still oddly attractive.
