This anthology of short, autobiographical stories has kids’ book authors telling tales of their own real-life athletic incidents. Some are funny, some are serious, and some put their own twist on the whole “sports” concept. Eight stories from both “boys” and “girls” include tales of dodgeball, wrestling, track, softball, and even ballet-as-a-sport. Kids will relate to the struggling non-jocks as well as the athletes who take the trophy home.

About the author

Joseph Bruchac was born in Saratoga Springs, New York, and grew up in the Adirondack foothills. He began to take an interest in his Abenaki heritage when he was a teenager. Mr. Bruchac has written many books, poems, plays, and short stories--most of which include tales, characters, and teachings from his Native American roots. Performing as a storyteller allows him another way to preserve his Abenaki culture. Winner of the National Council of Teachers of English Award for Excellence in Poetry, 2015, Marilyn Singer has written more than 100 books in many genres. An animal lover, Marilyn likes to look for critters in many places--and then write about them. She lives in Brooklyn, NY, and Washington, CT, with her husband, a dog, a cat, and two doves. A World Cup champion, he also won a bronze medal in the 1972 Olympics and placed 4th in 1992.Mr. McEwan is married to artist and illustrator Sandra Boynton. They live, write, and paddle in the countryside of Connecticut. David Lubar has written more than twenty books for young readers, including Hidden Talents, Flip, Invasion of the Road Weenies, Punished, and My Rotten Life. His novels are on reading lists across the country, saving countless students from a close encounter with Madame Bovary. His short stories have appeared in the collections of such respected anthologists as M. Jerry Weiss, Don Gallo, and Michael Cart, and in a variety of magazines, including Boy's Life, READ, and Nickelodeon. He has also designed and programmed many video games, but he'd much rather spend his time writing books and hanging out with librarians. He lives in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, with his wife and a variety of cats.
