U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to find an escaped murderer named Rachel Solando.

As a killer hurricane bears down on the island, the investigation deepens and the questions mount. How has a barefoot woman escaped from a locked room? Who is leaving them clues in the form of cryptic codes? And what really goes on in Ward C?

The closer Teddy gets to the truth, the more elusive it becomes. And the more he begins to believe that he may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive him insane...

10/10 I personally came across this book as a task for English to due with analysis. Decided to buy it to read it at a quicker pace at home and can safely say that I found this amazing to read. I'm not one to typically read books made by actual authors, typically just fan fictions or warrior cats- However. When I started to read this in my English lessons I was practically entranced, so much in fact that I bought it! The plot had subjects in which I found myself drawn to almost instantly, even though when I first saw this book I had my suspicions. And can safely say this won't be an experience I so easily forget, I may even read it again in my spare time! (Which I haven't done before, well, not intentionally anyway.) I think this book could be read several times and never get old, truly a fantastic read. Good characters, even people who are only mentioned once are given more descriptors than most things I have read. I do believe this is going to help with not only my analysis but also being able to describe and set scenes better. All in all, I would recommend this book to whoever finds themselves looking for a good crime book with a rather well placed twist. Now, this review would typically be over, but I feel as if a few cons of the book should also be addressed. I found it a little hard to adjust to the scenes at the beginning, though that could just be down to what I had read up to this point, therefore I won't redact any points for this. The second was the fact that toward the ending, I almost completely lost what was going on, though I also won't take any points off for this as I realized it soon after. (Also as I believe this was the intended purpose) And the final. The twist became extremely plausible during certain parts due to how it was going, though it managed to pull off the ending shockingly well. I guess there are somethings you can't learn by just reading fan fictions. And to you, random user stumbling across this post. If you are a fan of good twists and crime books, I'd suggest this book to you. Have a good day!

Brilliant storey. The plot so clever, the characters so real , I loved everything about this book. I had actually seen the film before reading this, but it didn't matter. I was hooked from page 1. loved it.

A haunting and beautifully-written book. The character's voice is captivating and immediately draws the reader in, and to listen to him feels as though you're listening to someone recount true events and details of their past. This book packs an emotional punch. Through some black magic, the movie and book's tone perfectly match one another. I frequently recommend the book to people who have seen the movie and vice versa, because even if we can expect the same course of events to take place, the story in each medium is unique and worth experiencing.
