About this ebook

After Labour's landslide victory in 1997, Sarah Bone has a new job and a new relationship, with an ambitious - but married - young lawyer. Can she remain true to her ideals in the face of political betrayal and inner-party power struggles?

She may never know. When her lover is found dead, Sarah is pronounced prime suspect. Her career is on the verge of ruin.

Nick Cane is free after five years inside for possession with intent. He's missing Sarah, who can't be seen to associate with an ex-con. Banned form teaching in schools, Nick tutors privately and chases a hedonistic old flame, before landing a job in a new rehab centre. Inspired by the chance to make a difference, Nick tries to help a gang of teenage girls avoid a life of drugs and prostitution. That's when the trouble starts and Nick realises someone is out to get him.

Sarah and Nick's dilemmas may not be as separate as they seem. But is it too late and too dangerous for them to help each other?
