Its starts slow and not so amazing, not compared to the malazan series. However, by the second book in this 3 book collection you are hooked. The third ends on an amazing scene and begs you to find more.

Didn't really ever paint a picture for me. Felt descriptions were broad and all proper names were one syllable. Didnt enjoy his style of writing.

Glen Cook doesn't give you every swing of the sword, but that takes nothing away from this story of brothers in arms. The characters are the story here, not the fighting. This story is as much advanced by the lulls in action as it the parts wherein the Black Company fights for it's very existence. Glen Cook writes in a manner that would make any veteran nostalgic for his unit of old.
