About this ebook

The day before Halloween 2004 was the last day on Earth for respected, well-liked college professor Fred Jablin. That morning, a neighbor discovered his body lying in a pool of blood in the driveway of Jablin's Virginia home. Police immediately turned their attentions to the victim's ex-wife, Piper, a petite, pretty Texas lawyer who had lost a bitter custody battle and would do anything to get her kids back. But Piper was in Houston, one thousand miles away, at the time of the slaying and couldn't possibly have been the killer . . . could she?

So began an investigation into one of the most bizarre cases Virginia and Texas law enforcement agencies had ever encountered: a twisted conspiracy of lies, rage, paranoia, manipulation, and savage murder that would ensnare an entire family—including two lethally close look-alike sisters—and reveal the shocking depravities possible when a dangerously disordered mind slips into madness.

Another top book by this great author. You realise how good a writer Casey is both through reading her books and also noting the high praise she receives from some of the best true crime writers today (Rule, Phelps and Stowers). When they sing your praises then you have reached a level above just another author. Incredibly sad story where one's narcissism just takes over without any thought of how their actions hurt others, especially her own three children. Incredibly she still denies her guilt and suggests her love for the children is above all, but it is obvious she does not really know what love is. A great read and sure to be enjoyed by readers of true crime. Eagerly looking forward to Casey's next book, it cannot come soon enough, I have read her previous true crime books and all deserved 5 stars. Congratulations on another great book.

I had not heard of the author until recently but have now read two of her books one after the other. As a true crime "fan," I heartily recommend this fascinating, well researched account, tragic though it is.
