Just couldn't finish, it was that bad. What was a great story about a young man learning to be an apprentice turned into a "boy" who seemed to be more interested on who loved who. The land is being devistated by raiders, the king is being poisoned, the prince is manipulating and murdering to get the throne, but Holy Crap, Molly is Mad At Me! The writing became abismal as well. Hobb repeats herself time and again, making me wonder if she just wanted to hit a certain word count. All told, I would tell anyone to just leave this one on the shelf.

Wonderful sequel to a great first book. If you're looking for a story that will leave you with questions at every turn, but will shock you with the answers, this is the series for you. On a side note, the characters are well done and give you a definite "feeling" for each character in the book. The one downside to this is that I instinctively knew through the whole book that a few characters were "bad guys" without letting the reader decide that for themselves. The upside is that it gave all the characters a more solid definition in your imagination.

I love FitzChivalry more than any other character I have ever read! He is the most relatable in his failures and insecurities. I want to scream at him and hold him at the same time.... He lifts me up and breaks my heart. He is the best and worst in all of us.
