About this ebook

The third book in the internationally bestselling Clifton Chronicles from master storyteller Jeffrey Archer

"An artful blend of colorful characters, seething resentment, calculated revenge, and a shocking, tragic cliffhanger" Publishers Weekly

1945. The vote in the House of Lords as to who should inherit the Barrington family fortune has ended in a tie. The Lord Chancellor's deciding vote will cast a long shadow on the lives of Harry Clifton and Giles Barrington. Harry returns to America to promote his latest novel, while his beloved Emma goes in search of the little girl who was found abandoned in her father's office on the night he was killed.

When the General Election is called, Giles Barrington has to defend his seat in the House of Commons and is horrified to discover who the Conservatives select to stand against him. But it is Sebastian Clifton, Harry and Emma's son, who ultimately influences his uncle's fate.

In 1957, Sebastian wins a scholarship to Cambridge, and a new generation of the Clifton family march onto the page. After Sebastian is expelled from school, he unwittingly becomes caught up in an international art fraud involving a Rodin statue that is worth far more than the sum it raises at auction. Does he become a millionaire? Does he go to Cambridge? Is his life in danger?

Best Kept Secret will answer all these questions, but once again, pose so many more.

I am enjoying the Harry Clifton series partly because it covers a period of time and history that I am interested in. It is the time my parents lived through and I like the picture it allows me to make in my mind of what their childhoods may have been like. What I don't like is that Google has removed a lot of the punctuation from their digital download version. Having paid a reasonably large price for a digital document (the same price I would have paid for a physical copy) I do not expect to have to add speech marks, apostrophes, commas etc etc. It makes reading the digital version a whole lot less pleasurable as sometimes I have to re-read sections because I have not realised that the character who is speaking the words has changed or because a comma would have changed the meaning of the sentence. Surely one shouldn't have to pay so much if it's a DIY punctuation model.

As per usual this man had many twists and turns to his story In true Archer form. Have read everything he has ever written. It's his style I love even more than his stories sometimes.

Another brilliant series from Jeffrey Archer. Started the first chronicle at the start of the weekend and now as of Sunday have finished the third. An enjoyable way to pass time.
