“Compulsive reading . . . brilliantly imagined.”—Los Angeles Times

In an Arizona desert, a man wanders in a daze, speaking words that make no sense. Within twenty-four hours he is dead, his body swiftly cremated by his only known associates. Halfway around the world, archaeologists make a shocking discovery at a medieval site. Suddenly they are swept off to the headquarters of a secretive multinational corporation that has developed an astounding technology. Now this group is about to get a chance not to study the past but to enter it. And with history opened up to the present, the dead awakened to the living, these men and women will soon find themselves fighting for their very survival—six hundred years ago.

It's no secret but I like Michael Crichton books; he blends enough plausible technical details in weaving the tales to be interesting and exciting reads. A nice cast of character traits, without going overboard on number and complexity, smoothly progresses the story from start to finish from the different perspectives. Online resources such as Google Maps and Wikipedia are good tools to follow along with referenced people, places, and things.

Many lifeless, non-contributing characters with an uninteresting plot. Not worth the money. Only reason I got this terrible excuse for a "book" for summer reading. Hell with this book.

Everything you expect from Crichton. Great story, quantum physics in layman's terms, lots of action. My favorite from this author. I couldn't put this one down.
