About this ebook

A thrilling, seductive adventure from award-winning author Alyssa Alexander…

After he is betrayed by one of his own, British spy Julian Travers, Earl of Langford, refuses to retire without a fight, vowing to find the traitor. But when the trail leads to his childhood home, Julian is forced to return to a place he swore he’d never see again, and meet a woman who may be his quarry—in more ways than one.

Though she may appear a poor young woman dependant on charity, Grace Hannah’s private life is far more interesting. By night, she finds friendship and freedom as a member of a smuggling ring. But when the handsome Julian arrives, she finds her façade slipping, and she is soon compromised, as well as intrigued.

As she and Julian continue the hunt, Grace finds herself falling in love with the man behind the spy. Yet Julian’s past holds a dark secret. And when he must make a choice between love and espionage, that secret may tear them apart.

The Smuggler Wore Silk is book one in the Spy in the Ton Series by Alyssa Alexander. I really enjoyed this book. It is a very complex story that kept me very much engaged. I couldn’t put it down. Julian Travers, Earl of Langford has been betrayed by someone. He has served his country well as a spy but now he must find the fiend who exposed him and others to danger. He believes he knows who is involved - a beautiful lady named Grace Hannah. But Grace is a mystery. On one hand she serves the people of her village by being a healer, but on the other hand she carries on a life hidden from Julian’s view. What happens when spy and lady begin to fall for one another? “Emboldened, filled with her own recklessness, she pushed her hands to his shoulders and pressed her lips more fully to his. His mouth opened beneath hers and she darted her tongue between his lips. He tasted hot and salty and male. He groaned and pushed his hands into her loose hair, taking control of the kiss. The demand was there now, the need clear in his foraging tongue and agile lips. His hands worked through her hair, then cupped her cheeks as he drew her against him. She obeyed, hungry for the forbidden. “ I enjoyed this story. I did feel that there were several plot holes that needed to be addressed. Why was Grace’s Uncle so awful to her? His loathing really didn’t add up. And why is Lady Clotilde Wargell so very hostile all of the time. I liked Grace’s character; however, I found her a bit annoying every time she demanded to be included in a dangerous mission. I am really hoping that the character Angel has his own novel.

Loved it but some pages were missing, jumped from page 72 straight to 77 so a bit disappointed. Kind of had to try and work out what wad going on. Really enjoying it up until that moment. Great story.

About the author

Despite being a native Michigander, Alyssa Alexander is pretty certain she belongs somewhere sunny. And tropical. Where drinks are served with little paper umbrellas. But until she moves to those white, sandy beaches, she survives the cold Michigan winters by penning romance novels that always include a bit of adventure. She lives with her own set of heroes, aka an ever-patient husband who doesn’t mind using a laundry basket for a closet and a small boy who wears a knight-in-shining-armor costume for such tasks as scrubbing potatoes.
