About this ebook

NEBULA AWARD WINNER • HUGO AWARD FINALIST • “If you want a fantasy with strong characters and brilliantly original variations on ancient stories, try Uprooted!”—Rick Riordan

“Breathtaking . . . a tale that is both elegantly grand and earthily humble, familiar as a Grimm fairy tale yet fresh, original, and totally irresistible.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: NPR, BuzzFeed, Tordotcom, BookPage, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly

Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.

Disappointed. Expected this book to be a bit more feminist. The main character is 17, but her "love interest" kidnapped her, and is hundreds of years old apparently. The climax of the book feels very rushed and confusing as well, so I am disappointed.

This book at first is really disturbing. but as you read on and on it is so wonderfully written, when I read the reviews about it being the worst book ever I could have slapped them people through my phone . The way the dragon talked down to aneskaka was his gaurd up against having any feeling or emotions for anyone or anything except his way.Show that change is possible II just want really to say if you can read out side the box . You will love this story as much as I.

This is one of my favorite types of fantasy books. I love when authors make their own version of a famous fairytale and recreate it to make it feel new again. This is probably one of the few books I own that I've read over and over, I own 400+ books of multiple genres but this remains my favorite. The story has a pinch of Polish or Russian kind of flair to it, A touch of enchanted forest, a helping of Baba Yoga's fairytale, and a hint of loner wizard who needs to teach all he knows to apprentice. The parts of the creepy forest are rather creepy and perfect if your looking for a spooky fall book, but the relationship between Angienszka and The Dragon are heartrending. I only hope someday N.Novik will write a short story about their adventures....sigh but not very likely. Read it, your going to love it.
