About this ebook

The son of a preacher man, the outlaw Boone Coulter carries the guilt of his sins and the assurance of his damnation on his shoulders, yet still is set on revenge.

When Philadelphia-bred Elizabeth Dougherty breaks into the jail and holds him--a cold-blooded killer--at gunpoint, saying, "Take me with you,” she has no idea the sheriff who wants her dead is Coulter's old enemy and now has double the reason to track her down and kill her.

When Boone Coulter grudgingly agrees, he has no idea that this fiercely proper yet defiantly sensual Victorian woman will find the one vulnerable place in his heart and fan it to blazing life.

Their wild leap of desperation into the Texas wilderness launches a passionate tale of love and sacrifice, and becomes the stuff of legend...

The legend of La Desperada.

Set in the Texas and New Mexico of Billy the Kid.

[LA DESPERADA] is hands down the best love story I have ever read... with surprises that keep on coming. ~Melanie Mayron, Actress, Director, Writer

LA DESPERADA is phenomenal: characters, pacing, story, quality of writing–it has it all, hands down. Read this book. You’ll thank me. ~Toni McGee Causey, Author

This is the romance novel Joan Wilder ("Romancing the Stone") wishes she'd written! ~Terri Edda Miller, Producer, CASTLE

Originally titled What Wild Ecstasy [Kensington Books], this tale inspired the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences/Nicholl Award-winning screenplay, "Redemption."

About the author

Award-winning screenwriter and novelist PATRICIA BURROUGHS (Pooks) is a fifth-generation Texan who lives in Dallas with her husband, near her three sons and their families.

Her earliest memories are of long afternoons spent soaking up the drama and laughter of the silver screen, and of long nights absorbing the magic of the written word—by flashlight. As a teenager, she sang, danced and acted in community theater productions. These influences, she believes, are the foundation of her lifelong ambition to write, to spin the dreams that ignite imaginations—to repay the debt to those who reached through the klieg lights, flashlights and footlights to touch a young girl’s heart.
