About this ebook

Winner of the Blue Peter Book Award, The Dark Beneath tells the chilling tale of how one girl's friendship with three refugees could cost her life.

'Today I shot the girl I love'.

GCSE's are over and sixteen-year-old Imogen is looking forward to a perfect, lazy English summer. But her world is turned upside down by three refugees, all hiding from life. Anthony is fourteen, already an outcast, bullied and shunned by his peers. Farid is an asylum seeker from Afghanistan, who has travelled across continents seeking peace. And Gordon Craig is a bitter, lonely man. She knows all of them, but she doesn't know how dangerous they are. Being part of their lives could cost Imogen her own.

Supercharged with tension and drama, Alan Gibbon's novel is about what happens when the fabric of normality is ripped apart exposing the terrifying dark beneath.

Blue Peter book award winner Alan Gibbons has again written an outstanding book. This time it is about a girl named Imogen, she is 16 years old when all of this happens. Imogen lives in a house in the picturesque village of Marsham, with her mum and dad. She works in a pub called the Old Marsham Inn. She hates it there, especially when the boys are there. They always have annoying comments to say about her. Meanwhile,Anthony, who is fourteen, has his eyes set on Imogen. He has recently been bullied, called names and abused, he still is. The boys bully him about the colour of his skin. Imogen comforts Anthony and tells him just to ignore them. Imogen certainly has a soft spot for Anthony. Gordon Craig one of the boys also has a soft spot for Imogen. He is a lonely man who does not want to be part of the group of boys and that he always hides behind his newspaper. Farid, who is an asylum seeker from Afghanistan, becomes part of the story who has travelled around the globe seeking peace. Imogen does not know how this will end. It may cost her very own life. The only one thing that is stopping her from knowing is for YOU to read the book... WRITTEN BY HALLAM HILTON
