About the author

Anna Sewell was an English novelist. Born on March 30, 1820 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, she got injured both of her ankles when she was fourteen. She was lame for the rest of her life and was unable to stand without a crutch or to walk for any length of time. For greater mobility, she used horse-drawn carriages, which contributed to her love of horses. Sewell’s only published work was Black Beauty which was the sixth bestseller in the English language. She died on April 25, 1878.
