this captures tons of the frustrations of a patriarchal society, but without any real catharsis. i think that mightve been what the author was going for, but i still didn't want to read this many pages about a talented young girl and spunky old lady relegated to doing nothing.

Boring! simply just boring. I've read and enjoyed many books where the heroin/heroins played out all the major roles which were excellent! this is man hating trope that any self respecting feminist would turn their nose up at. what a waste of time and money (mine). Also a shameful disrespect of the series that so many loved. I'll never trust this author again with a cent or a second of my time.

I read comments before reading this installment of the series, but after reading it I don't share the opinion that this is an Anti-Male piece. Definitely a story for the ordinary underdogs, those who can't wave a magic staff to make problems go away so easily. It's different from her other books, but as an ordinary woman reading about an ordinary woman in a world of makes and dragons I appreciate le Guin's ability to show a different side of Earthsea.

About the author

Ursula K. Le Guin (1929–2018) was the celebrated author of twenty-three novels, twelve volumes of short stories, eleven volumes of poetry, thirteen children’s books, five essay collections, and four works of translation. Her acclaimed books received the Hugo, Nebula, Endeavor, Locus, Otherwise, Theodore Sturgeon, PEN/Malamud, and National Book Awards; a Newbery Honor; and the Pushcart and Janet Heidinger Kafka Prizes, among others. In 2014, she was awarded the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, and in 2016 joined the short list of authors to be published in their lifetimes by the Library of America. Le Guin was also the recipient of the Association for Library Service to Children’s May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture Award and the Margaret A. Edwards Award. She received lifetime achievement awards from the World Fantasy Convention, Los Angeles Times, Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association, and Willamette Writers, as well as the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master Award and the Library of Congress Living Legend Award.
