I'm biased, because it's the very first historical romance novel I've ever read so it has sentimental value to me. That being said, the book is still pretty good, if only for it's extensive and colorful depiction of a harem. Everything from the preparation of food to the customs and traditions of the time (which I presume to be mostly accurate) to the kind of baths they use, entranced my post-pubescent mind and got me interested in history. i have yet to find another book that captures this world so excellently. Nevermind the actual plot. That's not what I read historical romance for anyway.

It was terrific.. first 5 chapters I had no idea what was going on, but later on I liked it!

But I always have a hard time reading about women being slaves to men.
