About this ebook

One of the true classics of horror, now with a new stunning cover look. THE SHINING is regarded as one of Stephen King's masterpieces.

Danny is only five years old, but in the words of old Mr Hallorann he is a 'shiner', aglow with psychic voltage. When his father becomes caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, Danny's visions grow out of control.

As winter closes in and blizzards cut them off, the hotel seems to develop a life of its own. It is meant to be empty. So who is the lady in Room 217 and who are the masked guests going up and down in the elevator? And why do the hedges shaped like animals seem so alive?

Somewhere, somehow, there is an evil force in the hotel - and that, too, is beginning to shine . . .

Absolutely brilliant, I was hooked! Saw the film first, but knew the book would have better character development - which it did. Couldn't put it down and finished it within a day, this book is long, but when you're reading it and immersed in King's brilliant descriptions, time flies by. One of the best books I've read in a long time, will definitely be moving onto Doctor Sleep next.

King writes for the reader's imagination and the films ruin the magic of his stories. The movie is the most disappointing thing about this story. This is one of my favourites; the first of King's novels that I read and I was instantly hooked and an obsessed fan. I didn't sleep well for two weeks after reading this: The imagery is haunting. The ending is explosive. Drones on in parts but it's just laying out the intricate details and too addictive you just keep reading!

What can you say about 'the shinning' which hasn't already been said. Great read with good characters. Did drag in parts which King could have left out but overall, a really good creepy book!
