Cornwell outdoes himself bringing this amazing trilogy to a close with an ending we know is coming but gives it lovely twists along the way. Dark age Britain gas a kid of peace but this is shattered by Saxons and several parties closer to home. Again told by our narrator Derfel, we enter a completely believable dark ages Britain and hurtle at breakneck speed through battles galore. Then at the end we lose our friends and feel their loss as the story concludes. Brilliant.
