About this ebook

The passionate romance of Twilight meets Greek mythology in this dazzling debut about star-crossed demigods.

How do you defy destiny?

Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is - no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder.

Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood... and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.

As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together - and trying to tear them apart.

In this book, Josephine Angelini has captured the meaning of love, family and friendship through the creation of unique characters and the personalities they acquire. Using descriptive paragraphs, Angelini has welcomed the reader into a world full of danger and evil, but also love and courage. Throughout the book we gain more knowledge of the main character, Helen, and Angelini has been successful in conveying the strong emotions that Helen feels as the reader also understands what she is going through, so this helps the reader become more involved with the book. The plot of the story itself is unique, descriptive and mysterious as we learn new and exciting things throughout the book. The idea of forbidden love makes the reader desperately want to know more of what happens between the two main people, and what lies in the way of them being together. Starcrossed will most definitely leave you craving for more!

So about half way through this book goes from really bad (like really bad) to really good. Not only does the story pick up, but her writing style seems to improve, like she went from a novel writer wanna bee to something a little more tolerable.

Helen is just a teenage girl wading through life trying to avoid being noticed, even though she is anything but normal! Helen seems to have incredible strength and speed and knows that she isn't like other girls. If I were to stop the review right there, you would think that this was like any other young adult "paranormal" book and quit there, thinking it is too cliche or overdone, but I would disagree! This book is fantastic, and the "side" characters are sometimes more amazing than Helen! I absolutely adore Claire, Helen's awesome "sidekick." Starcrossed is an amazing read! I have read quite a few Greek mythology books, and this is one of the best. I absolutely LOVED the different surprises that arise along the way. Also, the “starcrossed” lovers is something that draws you in. You just can’t stay away!!! The ending has left me in anticipation, and I can’t wait for the sequel, Dreamless!!!!! I read a lot of “paranormal” young adult novels, and this one is one of my favorites. I don’t feel that it’s too cliché, too predictable, or too boring. It has just the right amount of romance, angst, comedy, and action to keep you wanting more! Pick it up, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
