Frances Burney

FRANCES BURNEY (1752-1840), daughter of English musician Charles Burney, Frances published her most noted work, Evelina in 1778 anonymously and without her father's knowledge, only revealing her secret after the novel became widely popular in London. Her novels were read by Jane Austen who derived the title Pride and Prejudice from Cecilia (1782). She went on to publish three other novels and eight plays.
